The West Virginia is the fourth vessel of the Colorado-class battleships built in the 1920s and is the second ship named in honor of the 35th state. It is Mountaineer's lucky ship.

7 December 1941: Damaged during the Attack on Pearl Harbor. Total of 12 bomb and 2 torpedo hits are reported.
15 December 1941: Japanese submarine I-168 sights the battleship outside of Pearl Harbor and scores two torpedo hits. Heavy damage reported to the engines.
16 December 1941: Reported to have sunk.
